Shanghai City Nightview /

Shanghai (上海 Shànghǎi), with a population of more than 23 million, is the largest and most developed city in China.

Shanghai was the largest and most prosperous city in the Far East already during the 1930's, and has remained the most developed city in mainland China.

Due to its rapid growth over the last two decades it has again become a global city, exerting influence over finance, commerce, fashion, technology and culture.

Shanghai's goal is to develop into a world-class financial and economic center of China and Asia. Since the return of Hong Kong to China, Shanghai has increased its role in finance, banking, and as a major destination for corporate headquarters.

Shanghai is also a popular tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple and Yuyuan Garden, as well as the extensive and growing Pudong skyline. It is described as the "showpiece" of the booming economy of mainland China.

Suzhou Seven Mile Shangtang /

Shantang Street is located in the northwest of Suzhou. It was one of the streets which trade and culture were most highly developed in Ming and Qing dynasties, regarded as “the No.1 Ancient Street in China”.

The renovated Shantang Street becomes the place which shows the essence of natural views and human landscapes of Suzhou, which is rated as “the miniature of old Suzhou and the window of Wu culture”. The Shantang Street parallels with the waterway. Along the street stand a good many stores and halls which have delicate and graceful styles and scatter properly.

Indonesian Friends /

(Written @Guangzhou on July 21st, 2010)
